We are in need of a Senior Accountant to join our Finance Department. The purpose of this role is to oversee and conduct general accounting operations by controlling and verifying financial transactions. The Senior Accountant will be charged with understanding all facets of the business and with reconciling GL account balances, bank statements, and executing month-end close procedures. The successful candidate will combine excellent analytical skills with a thorough understanding of US GAAP to help analyze financial reports, identify variances and related adjustments, and implement new procedures to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Objectives of the position

  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
  • Inventory Management and Reconciliations
  • Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
  • Plan and execute periodic closing and financial reporting
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes
  • Evaluating accounting and internal control systems
  • Support internal and external audit of accounting processes and financial statements
  • Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
  • Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements as well as the requirements of private contributions, loans, and government contracts
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and Finance QMS
  • Maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs and both team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow, identify, communicate, and improve internal control gaps
  • GL reconciliations
  • Assist external CPA firm in the preparation of income and franchise tax returns
  • Lead and/or participate in special projects

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field
  • 4 years’ experience as a senior-level accounting or Controller
  • Minimum of 4-year experience in periodic closing and financial reporting
  • Professional accounting certification, including CMA, CGA, or CA (Not required) a plus
  • Working knowledge of finance law and regulatory standards (GAAP) and (IFRS)
  • Strong working knowledge of detailed financial data analysis
  • Exemplary history of financial project management
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
  • Strong accounting systems background with QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics, and SAP a plus
  • Excellent Excel Skills
